Sulfuric Acid Anodize provides excellent corrosion resistance when followed with Nickel Acetate and/or Sodium Dichromate post-process sealing. It provides moderate resistance to wear and abrasion. Type II - Sulfuric Acid Anodize is primarily used for applications where hardness & resistance to erosion is required. It provides thicknesses ranging between 0.1-1.0 MIL. Approximately 67% of the coating application is penetration into substrate with about 33% growth over original dimension of parts.
The anodic layer that forms during the anodize application serves as a base for color absorption when dyes are applied and improves adhesion for subsequent coating applications. Its permeable nature prior to sealing is used in the production of color surface finishes on aluminum and aluminum alloys. Porous aluminum oxide absorbs dyes well & sealing helps prevent color loss in service.
